Richard DePaul to Receive Volunteer Leader of Excellence
Award at PPC's Spring Outlook and Strategies Conference
SPRINGFIELD, MA—Richard DePaul, president of DePaul Associates of Williamsburg, VA, will be honored with the Volunteer Leader of Excellence Award at the 2010 Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) Spring Outlook & Strategies Conference. The award is given to individuals who have shown exemplary dedication and service to PPC, its members and mission, and the paperboard packaging industry.
“Dick is an incredibly talented individual,” said Tony Petrelli, PPC chairman.“Not only is he an excellent artist and package designer but he is also a life-long volunteer, both in his community and for PPC. His long-time contributions to our Paperboard Packaging Competition—and his participation in developing a reference guide for package designers—has helped grow our industry to new heights.”
From the 1950s until 1986, DePaul was the Container Corporation of America’s (now Graphic Packaging) corporate representative to PPC and served on PPC’s Technical Committee. Since 1994, DePaul has participated as a judge for PPC’s national Paperboard Packaging Competition and later, helped judge PPC’s Student Carton Competition. In 2000, he authored PPC’s successful publication Ideas and Innovation, a comprehensive handbook for designers, converters, and buyers of paperboard packaging. In 2004, he expanded the handbook into a second edition.
Although DePaul currently acts as a design and development consultant to the packaging industry—and holds over 20 U.S. patents—he also volunteers locally. DePaul and his wife were named Volunteers of the Year in 2004 for organizing Art on the Vine, an art show and wine-tasting fundraiser for the Williamsburg Land Conservancy. They are currently working on a similar project for the Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center, titled ArtWorks 2010.
DePaul also donates artwork to numerous charities, such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Heritage Humane Society, Williamsburg Rotary, and the Kiwanis Club. Moreover, he regularly volunteers at the Hospice House of Williamsburg, VA, Yorktown Arts Foundation, and United Way.
The award ceremony will be a highlight of PPC’s Spring Outlook & Strategies Conference, to be held April 26-28, 2010 in Cincinnati, OH. At the conference, leaders in innovation and sustainability will converge to offer insight, analysis, resources, and tactical plans of action for the paperboard packaging industry. Additional information, including a list of presenters, a schedule, and meeting registration forms, are available at www.ppcnet.org/spring.
